If you hold a current licence from a recognised country, VicRoads lets you convert via the practical test (no learner permit needed for many countries). We've taught hundreds of overseas converters and the common pattern is: technically skilled drivers tripping up on local quirks — keep-left discipline, give-way at roundabouts, school zones, and the specific shape of the test itself. Three to six targeted lessons is usually enough.

Overseas Licence Conversion — common questions
- It depends on the country and your licence class. VicRoads maintains the current list — broadly: NZ, UK, USA, Canada, Japan, and most EU countries allow direct conversion. Others require a practical test, which is what we prep you for.
- Up to 3 months as a temporary visitor; longer requires conversion. If you're on a visa that grants residency, the clock starts when you become a permanent resident.
- We have instructors fluent in Mandarin, Arabic, Hindi, Korean, and Vietnamese. Filter the booking flow by language and you'll see matching instructors.
- Honestly: give-way at roundabouts and school zones. Roundabouts work differently here from most countries; school zones (40 km/h during specific hours) carry heavy fines. The hook turn in Melbourne CBD is also unique and often catches new drivers off guard.
